Our Story

The founding team behind Balance brings more than 20 years of experience building fintech, marketplace, and consumer technology companies. Our focus has been on making transactions simpler and more intuitive while empowering businesses with modern technology. After two successful exits and amid the rapid advances made possible by AI, we asked ourselves: where could our experience have the greatest impact?

Healthcare was the obvious answer. With a physician in the family, we saw directly how much time and money practices lose to costly paper statements, disconnected payment workflows, and endless manual follow-up. And as healthcare consumers ourselves, we also experienced how frustrating these same systems are for patients.

Balance was created to bring modern payments and AI-powered automation to patient responsibility billing, helping medical billers collect more efficiently while giving patients a clearer, easier way to understand and pay what they owe.

Designed to help practices thrive

As high-deductible health plans and HSAs shift more of the cost of care to patients, independent practices have become increasingly dependent on collecting revenue directly from the people they serve. Yet legacy billing workflows leave too much of that revenue delayed or uncollected, putting pressure on cash flow and forcing difficult tradeoffs around staffing, visit volume, and time with patients.

We believe stronger practices create better conditions for care. By helping revenue teams operate more effectively, Balance supports the independence physicians need to shape their practices around patients and stay focused on why many entered medicine in the first place: to help people.

Built around the realities of modern living

Work, school, caregiving, appointments, and everyday responsibilities all compete for attention. Healthcare bills can be easy to overlook, especially when paying means sorting through mail, calling the practice for billing clarification, writing checks, finding stamps, or signging up and navigating an outdated portal. Delayed payments are often not the result of an unwillingness to pay, but an experience that makes paying unnecessarily difficult.

Consumers manage nearly every part of their lives from their phones, and healthcare payments should be no different. Balance brings healthcare payments into the smartphone era with a clear, mobile-first experience and flexible ways to pay. Patients can understand what they owe, choose what works for them, and resolve their balance wherever they are.
